So I was on Facebook marketplace and found some nice silver coin/bullion around me. Well, I'm novice to the stacking hobby. I paid $110.00 for a Morgan dollar and a walking .50 piece... what do y'all think? Was it a good deal?

Understand that I am NO expert, but in looking in the Jan. 2016 issue of Coins mag., a 1943 Walking Liberty Half in MS 65, list for $114. The Morgan?, It LOOKS like 1889, Mintmark? the 1889 in MS 65 list for $310, but it being un-slabbed etc. I really cannot say. It would SEEM as though you have a good deal, I myself am not a fan on buying anything on facebook or say craiglist, but again that's me. Overall though it would seem that you did OK

If the Walker was graded by one of the top Slabbing services and it in fact graded out MS 66, then you've hit a home run. Just don't expect the PCG slab to net you any gains and don't hold your breath on it being MS 66 either. Can't tell much about the Morgan.....

Stacking is done best through very reputable companies. Sure, you pay a bit of premium but you're not going to get fake coins and/or over graded coins. Hard to beat silver bullion right now for stacking purposes.

Personally, I would never buy silver from Marketplace and very few ebay sellers would I even consider. Too much fake stuff out there, including bullion.

Morgan looks like an 1882. Agree wholeheartedly.....no Facebook or Craigslist for me either.

I don't know jack about "stacking", but hello from Des Moines! :hello:

I cannot find prestige or that website from the graded coin....I don't usually buy ungraded coins for high prices. It seems if they are real you did okay for a coin collector but as a silver stacker you could have gone cheaper.....

PGC was a basement slabber, long gone.

A "basement slabber" is a conman who makes "basement slabs."
A basement slabber slabs his own coins in Coin World slabs or some other type of crude holder, sticks on a sketchy label printed out of a low-quality printer, printed with an amazingly high grade for the coin it describes, and sells on eBay for ridiculously high prices for unaware beginning numismatists.

I don't know about eBay silver. I'll buy a lot of items from eBay sellers but my silver has always come from local sellers I have dealt with (and trust) for years or the same for a few private sellers who work out of their homes. May be a good deal, but not sure that I wouldn't want to have it checked and watch any other buys until verifying it. Good luck and hope that these are a good buy for you!

Are you in DSM too?
