I have been through this 5000 acre section of woods last year on the main trails looking for cellars with my buddy and came up empty..
So looking at a 1870 map im seeing there was a house out there somewhere.. :read2:
Took my mountain bike all day Friday looking in these woods and finally got a small glimpse of a wall
as i ventured off the trails i started seeing lots of walls
Then came across the cellar i was stoked :headbang:
Couldnt find any dig holes and the area is about 50 acres

Headed out this morning with the detector and started pulling finds right away :headbang:
cuff links
the crotal bell still works
Is that other piece a comb :dontknow:
A strange large counterfeit with little squares and numbers :icon_scratch:
I think the small buckle is a civil war buckle..Its got markings and is stamped 1863 :dontknow:

Relic after relic with no coins..About 2 hours of hunting then i hit a spot that was 10x10 and got 5 large cents in a row.. :hello2:

Then the large oval buckle.
I was going over the area where them large cents were and got a signal near the tree, started digging and it ended up being a yellow jacket nest :-\
They were in my shoes stinging me,on my butt and leggs i got stung around ten times.Half hr hike to the truck...
So i got out of there but that spot is hot man :headbang:

The flat buckle you found with the two pin holes is a shoe buckle (1700s) missing the chape. That pewter calendar coin is a great find. Keep it from flaking away to nothing by mixing elmers glue with a little water (50/50 mix or a little more heavy with glue) and painting it onto the coin with a soft paintbrush. Let it dry, and if needed repeat. This should stop the flaking that will eventually destroy the coin as it dries out. This works for all dug pewter objects.

Great finds!

Thanks Steelhead, thats the earliest one I have seen. The ones I have dug werent pewter and were 1850's

As B.B. said get that preserved as Pewter self destructs quickly!!

Jonny B,

On your T2, SE what are the buckels comming up as? Are they coming up in the teens, twenties or even thirties?

Also have you found any gold coins with it and what would they come up as?

Great Hunt! The calender coin is fantastic! Love the buckles.
Thanks,

Don

It's a beauty alright, photo grabbed from the web,
wish it were in my collection
From what I see, the calendars were all set up with the numbers in the same format regardless of year, Maybe you can see the date of yours in the same position as the one in my web pic, the order of months listed will also provide clues to the date of yours.
Blazes example appears to be no/low lead pewter, the stuff can flake away to nothing in storage if not treated.

Here's the 1795 calendar, compare with the pic.

Great finds! looking forward to seeing more from this site
