The coins are collectors coins, and they cost a lot more than a dollar. Current price of the new $1 Trump coin sells for $2.44 per coin in a 25-coin roll or $1.55 per coin in a 100-coin bag, both well above its $1 face

I wish they would make the reverse look less like the kennedy reverse, they look the same. In general I feel like the beauty of coin designs have fallen since the end of the mercury dime.

While they are sold as collectibles, they are also legal U.S. currency.

Of course it is! But, I was trying to be funny, which a couple of people got. How often do you receive any dollar coin in change or find one while metal detecting in the US? The vast majority of the population want dollar bills, not coins. Don't ask me why - that is just the way it is.

I found Somewhere around a Half Dozen Of the Quarter Size Dollars,
Most Likely Show & Tell Drops by Kids who Got one

I Only Remember a Cartwheel Size 1914 Chinese Silver

And a 1877 Cartwheel size Trade Dollar ,

and a 1976 IKE Dollar

If I had More,, My 1970's party Brain Isn't Seeing them at the Moment

There were likely a few times in history that people may have wanted the silver coins instead of green back notes. Just saying.

Perhaps a lot of people would prefer any silver dollars over greenbacks / bank note dollars.

There are rare exceptions for commemorative issues and special legislation.
Thayer Amendment of 1866 bans the likeness of any living person on U.S. “bonds, securities, notes, fractional or postal currency”.

While the text does not explicitly mention coins, long‑standing Treasury practice and later statutes have treated coins separately, and the law has been interpreted to apply to paper money and certain obligations, not all coinage.
