If you never had used one before, don't get discouraged about learning all the strangled duck sounds. Since it ignores small iron it pays big time to scoop all other sounds at the beach. Don't bother switching to pinpoint to find a target, just slowly move the coil from side to side while pulling it back toward you. When the sound disapears, slowly slide it forward till you hear the sound and the target is just off the tip of the coil. Most Double D coils behave this way. This saves a lot of time and wear an tear on the switch too.

thank you Sandman, figure there's gonna b a substantial learning curve but I've been plundering the dry beach sand for waaaaay too long, never gonna learn if I never start. I've probably read every post on here and every word from the goldenolde about beach hunting, just ready to start making newbie mistakes Don't ya'll laugh when I post pictures of nothing but bottle caps and pull tabs, somebody's gotta clean, figure it'll b me for awhile but that's ok, gotta start somewhere.

Best way to learn, if you get a signal N-S/E-W, DIG IT.... Dig all constant signals. Low growls are special...

Set your sense where it is stable, usually between 11 and 3, just adjust it till it is stable.....
Set your threshold till it sounds like a faint buzz in your ear.
Set discrimination at 1, and no higher then 2, if you discriminate out poptops your discriminating out lots of gold.
Set volume to max.

In 3.5 years I have never seen a null be anything but iron, and I dug a lot of nulls at first, and still do on occasion when I'm bored.
