New house old yard

I got to hunt at an old homestead where a new house has been built. Luckily the old place was next to the new and undisturbed. Short hunt with a pro and a max.
What looks like a coin pouch with a glass window, a lock that says mail on one side and rfd on the other.

RFD stood for Rural Free Delivery. Getting mail to rural farm families since the mid 19th century...Probably a lock used to secure one of the old mail boxes at the cross roads...
