So I've been lurking here for a while now... maybe a month and a half or so, and i told myself I would not become a member and post until I found my 1st silver coin. Well, last Monday it happened. I went to one of my many, many (I live in a suburban/urban area) local banks and they had 2 CWRs. Of course I took them, and the teller had me count them out right there to make sure I wasn't shorted. I poured the first one out, and my heart jumped... silver rim! I waited till I got out of the bank to have a look... 1969-D! Awesome!
Well I guess a little background is in order. I've always been interested in coins, but about 2 months ago I found a silver quarter (1964) on the ground, yes on the ground, right outside a convenience store! And that kind of sparked a newfound interest in coins, and I found this site. I decided to go through allllll of my change, and came up with a pretty random 1990-S proof nickel and another pretty random proof 2007-S Washington dollar coin. But of course it escalated into grabbing all the halves I can at all the banks I can, and I managed 4 2002-P NFIC halves and a couple of Ikes, but that 1969 really got me addicted now.
And now the crazy coincidence. I remembered kleinerschmitter's thread about getting keeper nickels from vending machines, so I decided to try it at the store today. Lo and behold the very first nickel to come out was a beaten up, old 1947. Nothing amazingly special, but cool nonetheless!
I know these pics aren't anything special to most of you, but pretty awesome for my 1st finds
P.S. APUSH if you see this, do you teach an APUSH class? Because I took that class last year
