Hello, as you know, nothing compares to the new Minelab GPX500 when it comes to finding the gold in heavy salt/mineralised situations, but like you mentioned above, it comes with a hefty price. The new 5000 has a salt timing designed for this exact situation and no machine in the World can compete. BUT YOU NEED PHONES.. I would look into the Fisher Goldbug or Goldbug 2. These are light weight machines and are fantastic in high trash. Of course I have had good success with the Minelab Excalibur machines in the salt arena's too. It's a medium weight unit that is submersible to 200 ft. There is also the Tesoro Tiger Shark with a LIFETIME WARRANTY that is responsible for some really nice discoveries.
