Well I was going to take my MD out as I always do in the N Ga and hit the lake banks. I have done this every yr till this yr. I just happened to look at the DNR and the Corps of Ing on the net about the rules cause it seems like they change them a lot lately. Rite at the bottom of the page it says......it is your responsibility to know the laws. Well I really couldnt find out too much so I called and they changed the laws again. You can use the MD but only in certain areas that they have posted and it is better if you call to be sure. I wont be going this yr cause they didnt have my spot posted for it. And I read if you find anything worth more than $25 you cant keep it!
That is crazy why would you want to go to all that trouble if you cant keep it. But they arent looking for it.
Anyway I just wanted everyone to know and check the laws in your area before you just go and think it is ok.
Good Luck and HH everyone, rock

Your mistake was asking....it's better to just go, and deal with being caught when , and if, you're caught. I can't believe how many people are just so afraid of violating some minor law. The government continually writes laws...that's what they do. They don't have near enough people to enforce them, and many of those laws have no benefit in helping us. The way I look at it is speeding on the highway is routinely done...and, can kill somebody. I've never seen a metal detector used to kill somebody....what's the big deal.

Honestly, I have to agree with Jim. Its hard to drive to the post office and back without breaking some BS law anymore. Who is going to know what you find? Half the time you wouldn't know at the moment you find an object what its worth anyway.

My advice is to follow the law as best you can and if you dig up a cookpot of gold or silver coins ask yourself "what would Jesse James do?" :)

Yeah I have done that type of thing before but I have been in their radar sine 2008 and really dont want to trouble them anymore. The audit word I believe it posted in bold letters by my name at their office.
