I received permission to detect a new spot in an 1800's neighborhood. The finds weren't that fantastic yet, but I have a lot to cover still.
I think some one beat me to the silver. :icon_scratch:
My finds today were:

*1900 IH

*1943P war nickel , 1935 & 37 Wheats, 1976 Canadian quarter. :tongue3:

*An old gold gilt pin with what looks like a tiger on it. :icon_scratch:

*A Navy Receiver Switch Box - Bureau of Ships tag dated April 21, 1941.

*A large "Hammer Slammer Cap Special" token. Dated 1994. Any idea what a Hammer Slammer is? ;D

*Lead seal. I can see "R & G ? K" on it.

*A strange looking bullet. (to me anyways  )
Any idea how old it is? It has "W C C 6 7" on the bottom.

* Brass handle, plus many other tidbits.

Thanks for looking,
MM

:D ;D That's an awesome haul there MM! Looks like another great start to another great year! :icon_sunny: A Hammer Slammer is used for...POGS! Anyone remember those things? When you stacked them up, you used a metal "Slammer" to try and flip the stack. Was great fun back in the 90's ;D

Kiko,
Thanks so much for the info on the Hammer Slammer game. I've never heard of it. :icon_scratch: I know what I'm going to do with that token though. I'm going to smack DD-777 up side the head with it for his wise *ss comment above. ;D That was a good one though. That took a LOT of thinking though for him and his pea sized brain. :tard:
When I dug that large token I was so excited because it looked old, and I love finding old tokens. It was in great shape, and then I saw the "1994" date.
:( Bummer.
Thanks again,
MM

So you missed an 1800s coin by one year - and your still complaining? You should just change your name to "Modern Whiner"... :D

:sign10: :laughing9: Man, that was a funny line! ;D

Nice assortment of finds there, Doug! You got just a little silver in the war nickel.
Keep swinging, buddy!!

Dan,
I told you. That NOT funny.
You're right, that nickel is officially 40% silver I guess. Now if I can just locate the other 60%.
Thanks buddy,
Doug

***THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE GREAT REPLIES (except DD-777). GREATLY APPRECIATED***
I think that Navy radio tag has to be my favorite from this hunt. WWII history.

The "Russwin" piece is the interior knob of a deadbolt-type residential door lock. Your piece probably dates to between 1940 and 1960. History regarding the lock company--

Corbin Russwin traces its history to 1839, when Henry Russell and Cornelius Erwin ("Russ-win")began manufacturing plate locks. In 1902, their company merged with P. and F. Corbin, originally founded in 1849 by Philip and Frank Corbin and Ed Doen, to form The American Hardware Corporation.... Later becoming today's Corbin Russwin brand.

Doug,
With those finds I doubt someone "beat you to the silver". Looks good to me. Site has potential.

What was the temperature down there? I (kids helped) shoveled about 10" of snow last night. Not suppose to get above freezing for a while. :P

We went to a wake today and spotted a couple new promising sites.

Thanks Bob.
I'm hoping for silver still. I have a LOT of area to cover still. I located a spot on the property where I found the older relics & the IH.
It was 60's today, but I'm seeing 30's in our forecast this week. That won't stop me though.
Have a great week & come on down this winter.
