I've got a viking v5 to start with . It only two dials on it. But all I'm finding is tabs and full cans. I've started on a local field in MANCHESTER ENGLAND I've only just started to go out with it so I basically have never done this before. Any other advice for me and have I choose the right detector for a starter because I want a better one but there pricey , thanks any advice peeps

Back to the original question of which detector, I recently bought an X-Terra 705 and absolutely love this machine. If you're wanting to water hunt over knee deep I would go with the ATP, but if not the Xterra 505 and 705 are awesome machines, and It seems to speak my language. I've only used it one hunt and was really impressed with its recovery speed, target separation and audio. The prospecting mode is very good also, and very close to the GPX nugget machine in level of threshold quality. I did a quick 1 hour hunt in my aunts yard and found it to be a copper magnet. 8 coppers, 3 dimes, modem lead bullets and 4 big blobs of solder. Two of the copper penny's were under nails and have a good repeatable signal even using the stock concentric coil. The old GT may have to move over as my favorite machine.
