I recently became interested in this and finally got the money to spare to get a detector. I got a Bounty Hunter Tracker IV (good?) Anyway I went to a beach today after getting it and really didn't find much of anything it was sort of disappointing and sucked being by myself. I would like to go somewhere besides a beach but there is really nowhere just because everything is either private or has buildings on it. I found 38 cents today though so it wasn't a total loss. Is there anyone around this area that can help or would hunt with me? Or does anyone know of any good areas around here or even Williamsburg?

Not sure if you are allowed to or not, but you might want to try Mt. Trashmore over in Virginia Beach. Lots of events happen there. 4th of July fireworks, things like that. Might be good for rings or things. I dont know if I would even bring my detector to Williamsburg. Seems like it would be impossible to hunt anywhere near there with out people getting all upset.

There has to be some good historic places down in Norfolk that you can hunt. Moved away in 2000 and I was not into detecting back then. But will try to rack my brain a little to see if I can think of some good spots for you.

Welcome to TN!!!! Hope to see some of your finds up in the banner real soon :)

I didn't even think of mount trashmore. Oh and I went hunting with just the detector no shovel or anything just me and my detector and I found somehting big in the sand and dug it up with my hand and it was a little shovel like for gardening perfect for digging small holes I laughed and couldn't believe it. Sort of Ironic

LMAO How cool is that? Now you have a little something to help you dig!. I use a little garden shovel myself. Wonder if somebody lost it while they were MDing. Now you just have to go and find the detector he left on the beach next to his shovel LOL.

Welcome to TNET and the Hobby!!!
Good luck finding someone to hunt with.

Yeah that would just be way too nice lol. I wish I could afford a detector that has how deep things are and what they are. I think I dug up every bottle cap that was ever left on that beach lol

Welcome to TN,
It just gets better from now on.lol

Hey there,

I am not too far from you, and might have seen ya when you were at the beach. I live at the oceanfront, and am down there in the water almost daily(sometimes twice a day :)). I also happen to be new at this hobby as well, and only started about 6 weeks ago.

Some places I have found are Trashmore, other parks, schools, and the beach of course. Older houses in Norfolk might hold some treasure, but you will have to get permission from the owner, and preferably in writing. It is a bit daunting to knock on doors like that, and I have never done it myself, but, it could pay off.

If you go to trashmore, I would recommend hunting near kids cove. Last time I went there was shortly after the carnival had packed up and left. I do not have an adequate digger, and need a pinpointer, so I did not do much digging, but, that area was LOADED with targets. As for other parks or schools, I have not done much, as the beach is just so close, I go there almost always.

I am not familiar with your machine, but, is it able to function in the wet sand? I more or less hunt the wet sand at low tide, and if you are able to, we could team up soemtime at the oceanfront. I have a spare sand scoop as well you are welcome to if you have a need. much easier for beach hunting than using the hand, or a trowel, both of which I did for a few weeks before getting a scoop.

There is also a club in the area that you may be interested in. I have been to one meeting, and plan to join the club at the next. The website is www.tc-rc.com. Good bunch of folks, and its always good to have experienced people to turn to.

All I can think of for now, hope you come to enjoy the hobby as much as I do.
Anthony

Hey Derekbob.... Welcome to tnet and a great hobby! You're hooked for life now! I'm fairly new to this also and being retired with lots of time, I did get a used Whites Eagle detector that shows depth and target ID. It also has me digging lots of bottle caps! It thinks they are nickles.

I see that you are a AT3 in the Navy. I was a At2 in 1960 flying as a radioman out of Midway Island. Lots of fun! You might try finding some city parks with playgrounds in your area. Great training grounds for learning your detector. It's giving you lots of information, it just takes practice to learn what it's telling you. Again, welcome aboard and happy hunting.

yes, welcome, once you understand your detector man you will be having lots more fun.
