Well, after wanting a metal detector for the last oh, let's see, 25 years or so, I finally decided to spend some of my ebaY monies on a Garrett Ace 250 and get to huntin'! (I'm not lazy, I just have a million hobbies)
I must first say that this an awesome site and I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone's posts. Some threads are darn near Discovery/History channel material and it's very inspiring to say the least. I've been lurking for about a year and I've learned a lot from everyone. I'm looking forward to learning more, asking questions and being a regular contributor to the forum.
I finally got out today for my first hunt ever and I had a total blast. I tried 3 different spots for a total of about 3 1/2 to 4 hours. (maybe a little more, I lost track of time)
Spot #1 was a beach off the Mississippi River which is basically used for partying, fishing and dog walking. About 1 minute after turning on the detector I found a dime which put a smile on my face for sure. A couple minutes later I found a nickel. I ended up with 7 bottle caps, 5 pieces of foil, 4 pull tabs, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 1 screw and a non-dairy creamer for my
Spot #2 was at a youth baseball field. I had been using All Metal mode at the beach but I decided to switch to coin mode and search under the trees down the base lines where people sit to watch their kids play ball. I ended up with 7 bottle caps, 3 pennies, 3 pull tabs, a Pepsi can, a washer, a 9v battery, electrical connector, a piece of foil, 1 quarter and 2 dimes.
Spot #3 was a wooded area where a train track used to be many years ago. I picked a random spot and used All Metal mode. I ended up with a washer, a square nut(?), 2 bottle caps, a nail, a doohickey(?), and something which I can’t identify. Anyone??
All in all it was an awesome day for me. I was a little intimidated with all I’ve read about pinpointing but I was relieved once I started uncovering target after target and started moving along at a comfortable pace. So yeah, this is my new addiction.
