I went on a small roadtrip to visit a friend, about an hour and a half drive from home base. I noticed a small tot lot across the street so decided to poke around some with my machine. If i was in a modern neighborhood i most likely would not have bothered, but every surrounding dwelling seemed to be from the early 1800s, it was a 2 square block area with historical markers in everyones front lawn  so ya never know :dontknow: so after about 15mins of trash signals i get a nice 6 incher holding steady on all 4 directions :icon_scratch: hmm, so after about 10 mins of prying tiny rocks away, i get this. I just about fell over when i read the date :headbang: this beats my oldest readable copper by 2 years  1798 i couldnt believe i finally broke into the 1700s.

Thanks, yes it was a surprise. The funny thing that happend was when an old woman started asking me questions. First she asks "find anything?" this lady had to be in her 70s...then to my amazement she says " you should go to the old cemetery and poke around between them old stones over there" :tongue3: i just replied, "yeah I don't think too many people would like that, me bugging their resting relatives and all. then she says " aww hell, no one around here gives a poop, just thought id mention it and help you out. so i just said thanks and she was on her merry way. Sorry, i just thought it was odd of her telling me to to go there.
thanks for the replies :hello:

Oh, wow--How did I miss this post? You've got a good coin there! Congrats on breaking into the 1700s. You were smart not to venture into the graveyard. I've been invited to search a family graveyard--by the family themselves. I could did not venture any closer than the perimeter, it just would not feel right.

you lucky dog! i can't imagine anything like that here in california. i didn't know that coins that old would still be around.
