I did 4 hours on the field where I may have lost the french 2 sol coin the other day, no coin, but got another 11 buttons. My favorite is the sporting (or is it a livery ?) with what looks like a lion (or some kind of a cat) on it ? The decorated one has quite a bit of it's gold left, and the 4 holed one says "A. Munroe & Co. New Orleans."

I then moved on to a spot I just knew had a site on it, close to the water, and sure enough there was a site.

I dug more of these things there than I have before in total.

Got three coins there in about an hour, A Nova Scotia piece 1861, a Canadian 1876, and a blank.

Then a hour bike ride home. Great day in the out of doors.

You know I love those coppers, and those buttons are pretty cool. Glad to see you followed your gut and found that site.

Sweet finds and coins. Looks like a livery button. I was surprised the one I found had a silver gilt still on it after a lemon juice scrub. Anything maker on back?

That would be exactly it.
No makers mark, just rich color or something like that.
I only have maybe a half dozen buttons with animals on them so pretty cool to me.
After 3 years or so I think the site is about played itself out, especially after the fairly serious gridding I gave it yesterday. It gave up at least 30 buttons, and maybe 5 or 6 coins, 2 were nice condition 1700's coins though.

Its not like any Livery I've seen & its not like any hunts button I have seen either. Not sure what Category it is.

99% of Livery Buttons are post 1800, so the ID on that site is wrong.

Interesting...and just so you know I'll take your word over most others.
In any case I think we can say it is "similar" to a sportsman, or livery button. For the record it seems that almost everything found at this site was quite old, except for the ED VII half dollar., I likied it, no modern junk what so ever.

I would be willing to bet that site it older than you suspect Rick. Keep at it!

Great buttons. Cheers

The Quality backmark you quoted post dates 1800. Closer to a Sports than Livery.
