Had a great time Sunday & saved a little history. I found my 2nd stirrup, a nice one (like I needed something else to do electrolysis on!!! Any help with dating it would be great), a nice arrowhead(unfortunately broken), a few musketballs & a mystery item. Any help on the ID would be appreciated, there's a design but it's in very rough shape. (This was from a colonial site) I really think the dry ground was hurting the depth we were getting, it's amazing what shows up when the ground is wet.

Some may disagree, but stirrup is late 18th century. I have 2.

Hogge, all the finds from this site date to that period, thanks for the confirmation. GaRebel1861 & Tremac - that thought crossed my mind as well....

Shape looks like a bit boss but to small I think they nailed it on lock cover. You did well and wet soil is a dream for getting the deeper relics no doubt.

Very nice Josh. I have to agree with Hogge on the dating of your stirrup. Below is a pic from my Neumann & Kravic book showing stirrups from the Rev War era. Although yours is not an exact match with any of them, the general design is quite similar and I feel safe saying yours is c1775-1800 or thereabouts. That other item appears to be a small decorative ornament or bit boss, probably from that same period.

What a few killer relics, Mangum! I love that 18th century stirrup. Was it found in NC? You are having a great year.

Great stirrup buddy. You're so right about the dry ground. Some of the river areas that I hunt with moist fertile soil I get ridiculous depth with my T2. Luckily the ground here on the Maine coast is normally pretty moist .
