Nickels 1939-1942 Pre silver.

Hey guys. I have been going through some rolls and am finding a few 1939-1942 Pre Silver nickels. I see on some website there are double dyes and such, but if I have a nickel and it has no mint mark and it not a double dye. Are they just a nickel? I have about 10 and don't want to keep them if they aren't worth more than that but if I keep finding them at this rate then it will be a lot of room. Basically if they aren't the rare double dye ones are they worth keeping?

Well i keep all pre60. Im planning on selliing mine on ebay or.somewhere once i have 25 rolls. One person on here has a lcs that buys them for 7-10 cents each. If i didnt keep pre60 i would only get a war nickel once every box. It would be easier to do dimes.

You'll need to learn how to grade the coins that you find. The cut-off in grade (IMO) is XF and above are worth keeping. Anything in lower grades is just a filler for someone's collection. With the low cost of an XF (40-50 cents), why would anyone pay for a lower grade?

Ok good to know. I like the fact they are old, but I found like 8 in one box and like a few in another and I was thinking, man are these even worth keeping because I am finding too many for them to be worth a lot.

just keep all pre-1960. It only costs you .05 a piece! That's what I do.

Pre-'60. They built a lot. I've thinned my keepers down to pre 1950.

I used to keep all pre 1960 and then I realized I have a lot of them and they are not worth more than face value.
I was able to sell a few rolls on ebay for $3-6 a roll +S/H. Overall I doubt think they are worth the effort.
So now I keep:
War Nickels,
1938 D+S, 1939 D+S, and 1950D are certainly worth keeping.
I also keep other nickels that have mintage less than 20 million (1938, 1942D, 1946S, 1948S, 1949S, 1950, 1951S, 1955)
1939 philly just because I have sold rolls of them for $10.
Any pre 1955 nickel in XF or better condition.

I thought I remembered 1938 P being worth a dollar or so in pretty good condition
