Nickels,pennies or dimes?

Working with $250 so what would be my best bet to do for an order? So can't do quarters or halves unfortunately unless they were loose rolls.
1 box dimes
2 boxes nickels, 2 boxes pennies
10 boxes of pennies(doubt they would order me that all at once)

I want to start hunting more in bulk but I don't want to get too far into it as the money I am using is extra just in case spending $. So don't want to need it and it be tied up in coins.
When you order, you don't have to put the money down up front do you?

If you're after metals (vs. collecting years) I'd say dimes. Or go around and try to get your quota in loose rolls of halves. If you want to collect go for the pennies and look for wheats.

Pennies I'd probably only look for wheats just cause there are wheats, maybe the random King George or IH would be nice to. Just don't want to get into them ordering me boxes of dimes weekly and then get behind in it.

How long does it take for them to get in a box I'd wonder.

Depending on your banks order day and the day you actually order it can be a couple days to a week. As said, if your in it just for the silver I would go for the dimes. Otherwise, I would try a box of each and see what you enjoy the most.

if you have an awesome dump strategy, I would do no dimes, they are horrible in my area. I would seatch 2 boxes of nickels and 2 boxes of pennies.

I would be happy if i could find a bank to order me 10 boxes of pennies, but then dumping becomes an issue. in this hobby, you have to think before you do, because you may end up with a bunch of coin you cannot get rid of.

I'll weigh my options. I really am trying to find the silver. Maybe I can get them to order when I ask them to. I should have an ok dump solution. As long as it is a coin that can go thru the sorter I don't mind large amounts. I just felt awfully bad for the 2 tellers I dumped some Ikes at. I split it between 2 branches. I had $180 worth. I could just tell the first one was annoyed having to hand count them. Second bank the girl didn't even know those can't go thru the machine. Kept trying. Then she had to count them by hand after asking. She took the coins right away so I couldn't mention that it won't take them. But it is there job.

String dimes produce very consistenly in Phoenix, whereas String halves SUCK here. I cant really tell you as its all area dependent. If I were you, just go get the box...and see what you find. My first box produced 2 dimes, 1 Rosie, 1 Merc.

Whats the worst that can happen? Plus, odds are you'll get at least one dime.

I'll +1 on this. I understand that CRH is a hobby that can be enjoyed at all amounts of bankroll but $250 is just simply too little for serious silver hunting. The only way you will score with that volume is to get really lucky on CWR. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to belittle your personal economic situation but you would have to get tremendously lucky to score much on a single box of dimes. War Nickels are fun to hunt for but they are only worth like .90-1.50 cents and they take a lot more effort to find. I quit doing Nickels after a couple boxes because they take way too much time and they just simply don't yield enough to make it worth my time. If I'm in your situation and I have to choose one I would do the dimes, but the most important thing you can do if you want to find silver is to find a way to increase your volume.

Yeah I understand a good bank roll is necessary. Not working right now so if I was I'd have alot more to work with. I should get back into my metal detecting, can find lots of silver that way. Although I haven't. Last time out my buddy was finding them like crazy and I had several machine troubles. So since then I haven't been out. Even had bad luck pulling the batteries out so they don't corrode. It was just like ahhh.

Well I'll try to hit up my pickup bank but I think they have to order boxes and she also mentioned another branch has a coin machine and I can get bags off them. But I'm weary of that. That is so much of a chance to be someones dump plus I cant afford a dime bag.
I may also try to hit up B of A since a friend who worked there said they kept alot on stock.

I can assure you a BofA has a dime box. Dont worry about anything else....just go get it. March in friendly, put your $250 on the counter, and say, I'd like to get a box of dimes. May the force be with you. Im excited for you.

Your best bet for silver would be to find customer-rolled halves. One 40% is worth 2 silver dimes. More bang for the buck.

Oh I'll be heading into B of A and seeing if they have any halves also. Then decide what I want to do. Drop all $250 or go for some CWR of halves if they have it.

It depends, it varies from person to person and place to place. With your bankroll dimes may be best in your area, in my area dimes are horrible and not worth it though you can hunt them quickly and they are super easy to dump. Nickels are my personal favorite though only War nickels contain Silver, you can also look for certain dates Buffs,V's etc., and put sets together. It is Not True that Nickels take a long time to search I can search a complete box in under 30 minutes and with expereince you can spot the Wars most of the time by their edges (They just look different) They are somwhat difficult to dump but that is only because machine bags only hold $200. I don't like pennies, Halves are the biggest money maker but you really need a $500 Bankroll for those. Good Luck with whatever you choose.
