Noob checking in from Southeast Texas

My daughter and myself want to get started into this hobby. We don't even have any gear as of yet but I will order what we need. I'm also wondering if there is anybody close that knows where the best place to go for families. My daughter is 7.

I live in Beaumont, where all have you been? Parks are a big hit with kids and beginners. By the way, generally, with detectors/equipment, you get what you pay for.
