Today I decided to hit the old park close to work during my lunch break. I decided I was going dime-quarter mode only on my Fisher F2 DD machine since there is an annual carnival for the community in this park and I always find several quarters there. So basically I am having a pretty good hunt picking up about $3 in dimes and quarters and it is almost time to go. The next hit I get is the faint quarter or something bigger that is barely repeatable. When i pin-point I almost have to push the metal detector in the ground to get a location and depth. The F2 shows that it is between 9-11 inches deep. I think to myself that this is nothing but deep trash. Since I am having a good day and have seriously not dug any trash targets today, I decide I should try it and see what happens. I have a Raven shovel which makes the job much easier. I get my best pin-point and work a plug 11 inches deep (full shovel blade) around the target. I work the plug out and check the hole with the F2. Good - its out of the hole. Next, I check the giant plug and it goes off. Ok - its there. I see the side of this silver coin and it looks thick and the side ridges are deep. I kept thinking to my self "you got to be kidding me ......" This is what I found.

Anyway ... the hunt ended after this one!

It just goes to show you that the you never know what your going to find. These great coins are still out there! The F2 goes deep but you could definitely tell that this one was on the very edge of its limitations!

I hope you enjoyed it!

Great find, I'm still chase'n silver

Congrats!! I run with the F2 also and I really do like it. Just like you I hit a spot where a town celebration was held not to long ago. Found a bunch of change, but nothing as cool as yours!

Considering Columbia, MD isn't a very old city, that's an excellent find! I grew up around the Wilde Lake area.

Killer! Still on my wish list.

awesome find bud,,, makes me wish i had hit more of the signals that did nto repeat every swing and were deep....lol:icon_thumleft:

man what an outstanding find. a Peace or Morgan has been on my digging wish list forever. Among the deeper coins I've found with my XLT was Merc at 10.5 inches and a Wheat at 12 inches. as big and thick as the dollar coin is, I don't really think it was at the very edge of it's limits, but I'd bet the coin was either standing on edge or laying at an odd angle causing the return signal to be faint. again, super find. congrats!

Congrats on that large silver!!

I think they call that the icing on the cake!
