Hi all,

I recovered this item at an old home site today. It seems to be made of copper, has loop at the top and 2 shanks on the back. Seems to be etched with an ornate pattern.

Any idea what it is? Thank you in advance!

Reminds me of an antique saddle tag. I dug one in Arizona. Not a positive ID, just saying!

Looks like the members are stumped on this one. This might be a first! I also posted this on a MD Facebook group as well and no one has an any idea there either. This item has to be something with the shanks on the back and ornate front.

Hopefully someone will come across this post in the future for an identification. Thanks for looking!

It's just a ladies decorative pin with the attachment pin missing from the back. First Pic is upside down....but it is just a vintage costume jewelry pin.

It looks like half of a coat/cloak/cape closure. The piece would originally have had a matching half that had a functional hook. I'm not sure if the part holding the ring on is soldered closed, but the other half would be similar, but with a hook function. It would be sewn on with the two shanks, the ring would have had the hook from the other half pass through to close the fastener. I'll attach a photo of an example that is similar.

If you look at listings for antique cape/cloak clasps they are usually described as Victorian era, so that would roughly fall mid 1800's to early 1900's. The timeline fits for the age of the homesite.
