Hi all,
I've been going here and there this past week looking for some older yards to search..I ended up going back to a neighborhood that produced some nice silver coins last summer and found a couple more yards through RE agents. The other day I called an agent to try getting permission to hunt a promising looking yard, but he told me the house was under contract. I thanked him and told him to let me know if there were any other yards I could search in the future. He was kind enough to line me up with not one, but 2 yards located in 2 different areas.
The first yard only produced a few wheats and clad, so I searched the second yard yesterday, only to find a lone '61 Roosevelt and a few more wheats..I went back this morning and searched a couple hours more and only found one more wheat and a few clad coins. I decided to swap my stock coil with my "deepie" coil to see if I may have missed anything. I ended up with another wheat, a Missouri tax token, a few more clad dimes, and right as I was ready to quit I got a strong penny signal that turned out to be a sterling silver spoon from the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair! I was absolutely THRILLED to find it, and I was elated that I didn't scratch it with my digger. The spoon is a little longer than 3 1/2 inches, very thin and a little bent, but it must have been stepped on a few times before finally settling into the dirt. I was actually amazed it wasn't in worse shape.
I was also able to hunt another yard that produced some wheats..4 or 5 were in one hole near an old post that held up a clothes line. I tried really hard to find some silver, but except for the spoon and the '61 Rosie, the silver eluded me this week
I ended up with a total of 15 wheats, a key, part of a Tootsie Toy vehicle, a rather large bullet, a pendant, a whatzit, a steel button, a crusty Missouri tax token and the spoon.
Hope you all find a little treasure this weekend.
