Tell us, Art, what was the point of starting a thread by posting a link to Wikipedia?

What were you thinking you would accomplish?
Apparently Art wasn't trying to accomplish anything. I'll go ahead and assume that he was merely trying to divert attention away from the real topic of this board in an attempt to avoid have to answer any hard questions.

Re: occam's razor

Just started this thread to see how many people would read about Occams Razor...After all we have been told that it proves Dowsing will not work.....Art

I'm actually amazed that you were able to understand Occam's Razor enough to come to that conclusion. Aren't you glad the wool has been lifted from your eyes? Despite all of the philosophising and scientific posturing the dowsers have done, it turns out this is all it took to finally make you see.

Pretty easy to understand...More junk from the 14 century that you claim is Science....Art

And the junk from the 2000 years ago that you call dowsing? What do you have to say about that?

Re: occam's razor

Who said anything about the Bible? ???

Or, could you simply be trying to twist my words like you always do? Are you deliberately misinterpreting my post again, Art?

Besides, according to dowsers, dowsing predates Biblical times, so it's readily apparent that you don't even understand your own posts....

Or, since you are trying to put words into my mouth by inferring that I was talking about the Bible, one might even see you as:

"Bearing false witness..."

How's that grab ya, Art?

Ummm, you do know where I got that line from, right? ::)

Re: occam's razor

Hey AF….Sorry that you feel that way….When some one has to “guess” what you are talking about it makes it hard to answer you. Stick to what you can prove. You may want to read the entire web site. Your knowledge of treasure hunting is so bad that it seems that you are not a treasure hunter….Art

Re: occam's razor

Hey af, have you ever tried Dowsing with L-rods?

Re: occam's razor

It totally amazes me that Mr. Laden and Af spend such an enormous amount of time in a forum that is about dowsing when they don’t believe in the subject!

It is somewhat sad that they don’t spend that time doing something that is positive as opposed to the continued anti-dowsing negative posts that they put up everyday. If they don’t believe in dowsing then why do they spend so much time in this forum? It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

It seems every time a member posts something about dowsing in a positive manner you can bet that they will quickly jump in with their negative remarks. Sad, very sad.

Steven

Oh – Mr. Laden and AF. I don’t mean this question to be disrespectful in any way but are you gentlemen Atheists?

Re: occam's razor

Dowser, one does not have to try something, to have a say in it. Example: I need not try heroin, to suggest that it is not a wise choice.

Steven77, on the contrary, it is QUITE positive to steer on-the-fence persons away from a silly waste of money & time. I used to not care. I never went on a dowsing forum, etc... Until a Mexican fellow and I were planning a trip to Mexico. He invited me along for my metal detector expertise. In the weeks leading up to our departure date, he purchased a TH'ing magazine, and was spell-bound by the dowsing/LRL ads. He was about to spend several hundred dollars on one of the gizmos (how can you discount it when there's a pix of a guy next to a jar of coins he found from "miles away"?). It was then, and only then, that I started looking into it. So there you have it! An example of a guy, you wonder why he cares, has looked into the subject, and is thus on your forum. My friend came to me asking if we should buy one for our trip, and what was I to say? Sure that justifies my looking into it! We/he didn't exactly have $$ to waste, so it deserved an answer. Anyhow, there's my reason for taking an interest in the subject. Not sure of the other's reasons, but just to let you know, there ARE reasons why skeptics post here, as they may have been put into a position of having to explain/support/debunk it.

Hey, do you ever wonder why there's never NEVER anyone on the detecting forum claiming that detectors don't beep over metal. Hmm, I wonder why that is?

Nice post Steven.....Tom...We are talking about Dowsing on this forum. I have less than $8 in my best rods. You are going to save me? Read this entire forum and you will find that there are many people who are real happy about how Dowsing works....Art

Re: occam's razor

Dell and Art, that was 10+ yrs. ago. He had several different ads marked when he brough the ads to me, suggesting we buy something like them. None of the were "$8", and I don't recall if they were MFD, dowsing rods, LRLs, or whatever. They're all the same in my book. They're a gizmo you point in different directions, and the rod swings to treasure. Period. Anything else is semantics and word games if you ask me, to distance yourselves from the ones that even you would have to agree are bogus.

Jimmy Sierra gave a talk to the San Jose club years ago. When the question and answer time came, someone asked him his views on dowsing and LRL's. I think he had a neutral view on dowsing (didn't practice it, but didn't knock the ones that did), but he DID have an issue with the gizmos that purport to have electronic innards, battery, etc... He said he and his staff bought one, just out of curiousity, to take apart and see what was in it. He said that the ONLY thing that actually worked to do anything electronic in there, was the batter tester. All else was wires and stuff that went nowhere or did nothing. In other words, spaghetti. And people have paid BIG bucks for that stuff.

Re: occam's razor

Tom,

I wasn't pertaining to their remarks on expensive LRL devices as they have absolutely nothing to do with dowsing. It was about their constant negative postings in every thread when the word dowsing is mentioned in a positive manner.

Its as though they have made it their single goal in life to convince the world that dowsing is a bogus act when there are people all over the world practicing this ancient art.

Re: occam's razor

Good post from Jerry and Tom....They are here to save us from people and gismos....We do not talk about these gismo's on this forum. Please do not bring this subject up again as we can not reply to your bogus idea's...Art
