this one is probably from 1900 to 1930ish, it was a paper shell as it has all rotted away but can still see some of the old paper material inside the jacket. nice find of a piece of american history!

Now were talking, that's a great find! I love to find those old shotgun shells! Around here they are all corroded from the elements. That one is in very good condition. Keep searching that area, there has got to be some good stuff there! :icon_pirat:

Man, If I had a quarter for each one of these I found! SHotgun shells are a pain, but pretty cool when you come across the 19th century ones....

It seems like the nitro club ones were the most popular, seeing as though the woods are littered with them! They give off such a good signal and when I first see the ring in the dirt I think WOO HOO!! old coin! There kind of a bummer, but I dont no anything about shotgun caps!

I was still buying Peters in the mid 60's...

The brass remained unchanged from inception till manufacturing ceased prior to 1970.

THIS..

They used that for a LONG time..

The real indicator on the OPs shell is the paper hull...

That puts somewhere before the 1960s..... (just off hand without looking at my references)

Paper has been around long before 1960...

Long before I was kicking the slats out of my cradle :laughing7:

thanks for all the links!! it really helps me!!

that is really weird you were buying them in the 60s cause all my research says that the company ran from 1887-1934. maybe a store bought a pallet or two and still had boxes??

I'll bet I still have a few Peters 22 Cal in my cleaning tackle box...

The Peters Company was sold in 1934, and changed hands several times and each new owner manufactured using the old established name...

I always thought the symbol looked like a race car
