Old Casing Found Near Tombstone, AZ

[Suilleabhain]

Hello all! I'm brand new here. Looking for some assistance in identifying an old casing I found on BLM land outside of Tombstone. Did my fair share of Googling and came up empty. I'm pretty familiar with most common cartridges, but this one eludes me. Here's the description:

No headstamp
Centerfire
Boxer primed
1 7/8" overall length (47mm)
5/8" wide beveled rim (16mm)
No extractor groove
Looks to be .45 caliber, but the mouth of the casing has been compressed, so I can't tell for sure.

From my readings, it is too short to be a 45-70, but too long to be a 45LC. I couldn't find anything that was "close enough" to the dimensions of this casing to be a possible match. Some old obsolete black powder cartridge perhaps? Thanks for your time!

I noticed this was your very first post Suilleabhain - so, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Think it's a 45-60 Winchester. They were quite popular in the southwest. 45-60 case is 1.890" and 45-70 2.100"

Nice find, but remember, taking stuff from BLM land is illegal.
