Hello all
I decided to return for another hunt to the Ghost Town of ELK CITY OREGON

Our first trip up tpo the ghost town found to be kinda neat but kind of a let down too.
first we found the town and tried to see if we could detect it and were told no by the locals who were still around.
then one of the locals told us of an old cemetary that had buildings around it at one time years ago.
and gave us some directions into the mountains to find it.

well as luck would have it we found it and we hunted AROUND IT not IN IT..just to be clear
found a lot of shell casings and a lot of junk but no treasures
we didnt stay too long and we were wishing we had brung the camera

well for my last hunt of the year I decided to return and this timne with the camera.
so I want to share with you my day and the hunt and the finds.

and a lot more pics.

HERE IS WHAT YOU GET TO SEE
first post of pics will be the Ghost Town ELK CITY OREGON.
The second post will be of the Cemetary
The third post will be the views from the cemetary
and the Last post will be my finds.

THE BIG BUILDING IS THE GENERAL STORE
IT WAS ONCE OWNED NY MY FATHER BUT I DIDNT FIND OUT TILL AFTER OUR FIRST VISIT
IT IS CURRENTLY UP FOR SALE.
SOME FOLKS STILL LIVE THERE LIKE IN THE YELLOW HOUSE

nice pics! Just think of all the history there.

Just a rhetorical question: why is it disrespect to search an old cemetery but it's okay to neglect one and let it get overgrown?

Cool post! I enjoy old cemeteries .... it looks like that one may end up being "lost" before long.
Was there a fire nearby? I noticed burned trees, or was someone just clearing land?
I agree with you, I wouldn't feel right about detecting *in* a cemetery.
I went to an old (1800's) cemetery in an old part of town the other day. There use to be a dirt parking lot next to it many years ago and I thought I'd md it. Well, it's been paved over and the cemetery is fenced in. There is a lock on the gate too.
There's a few more old cemeteries not far from there I'd like to go see. No ghost towns here though. Folks just tear down the old houses and put up McMansions!
Thanks for posting all those pics.

Those buildings look a lot newer than one would picture in a ghost town. When was it abandoned, and why?

Just for the record i did not let it go
and it isnt my town i dont live there
and i did call the cemetary restoration club after the first visit and offered to take a crew in a clean it up
i am also going to see about detecting it for them to remark all the lost graves that once had steal stakes that should still be detectable. you can tell where many are because they are sunken in
and maby we can map it out togather.

That first photo has the type of house I'd like to own in the boondocks, simple and cozy.

Do you know if the local historical society knows about the cemetery? I bet they would like to know about it so that folks can get up there and clean it up, photograph and record all the tombstones, and make the information available to genealogists.

Like you, I don't detect in cemeteries, I respect them. I enjoy visiting old cemeteries, photographing some of the tombstones, and wondering what it was like to live in the town.

Are there any old lumber camps in the area? Lumber camps can turn up some great stuff, from old saw blades and bottles to old coins. Oregon had lots of lumber camps, I'd be going to every one I could find.

Thanks for taking us along on your adventure.
they know they put up that sign in 97...lol
and im working on it
