HELLO, folks, my brother, zoyboy, and I decided to head out today for some treasure hunting at the "Old Colonial Road." Since our great uncle, Colonial Silver Zeus, could not grace us with his ultimate grace :icon_sunny:, we headed out to one of our "back-up" sites. Usually, we bring our detectors to this site, so we brought them today. :tongue3: :tard: In case you may be wondering, we also usually bring our big digging shovels, so we brought those, too. To ward off your confusion, we usually bring our extreme passion with us as well. :D

Today, in Central PA, the temp was a soaring 45 degrees with a blustering wind of 20 mph, but let me tell you, that 20 mph wind did not stop these treasure-seeking baboons from detecting on this super ancient roadbed. :tongue3: :D Upon our arousal from our respite, we decided to have a hot cup of hot choc-a-lit and brainstorm about our plan of attack. :tongue3: :tard:  With my black, silk robe secured tightly to my metal detecting body, I walked down the steps with a metal detecting smile on my face. :tongue3: To make a long story short that usually pertains to metal detecting, we ended our chat about metal detecting and decided to load our metal detectors into my car. <cynical grin>

Skip ahead in time to about 10:31 a.m.

We were detecting now. :tongue3: As I walked my way to an area that I had in mind, I looked back at my brother and wished him luck.

Skip ahead in time to about 10:32 a.m.

I turned my "John 'Johnny' Walter" metal detecting knob to "MAX." As it clicked in place, I looked over at zoyboy and saw him "scanning" for pottery in an exaggerated fashion with his shovel on his shoulder (he beat me to the mode switch). :D

12:30 p.m.

Two hours later and zoyboy is still scanning his "mellon" back and forth looking for "you know what." :binkybaby: :dontknow: In all gravity, at this same time, I was sweeping with my usual fever and while MY eyes were scanning for "that stuff," I locked in on an odd-looking object. As I picked it up, I thought, "The last person to hold this was a crrrrrrazy Injun 5,000 years before the birth of the Johnny Walter." :tongue3: :P It turned out to be a 5,000 year old Native American arrowhead. :headbang: :notworthy:

Before I excavated the arrowhead, I had located a Colonial homestead. I found a broken spoon handle, a button, and a horseshoe, but no coppa. :angry4: Oh well, I am happy with my first crazy Injun artifact. Heck, at least I know it is B.C. (Before Coppa). :tongue3:  :D

Departure from site

We headed home with our same super high fever. Stay focused on our upcoming threads, we still need to hit one of zoyboy's research sites for 2008. He has a ton of them and pending permission, we should find some nice coins this year. Folks, to end my thread, I have to say something...I love you all! :love3: :love4:

Keep the passion high!

Pretty sweet find buddy
It isn't a "coppa"...but heck...it's even better than one. Just imagine what the crazy injun might have stuck with that arrow head :icon_jokercolor:
I haven't found one of those since high school. That's about the time I got serious about detectin'...so no more arrowhead hunting for me after that, Anyway...neat find.

Re: Old Colonial Road Hacks Up Thousand Year Old Artifact

Nice find

Funny how detecting helps the hawk eye. I can see a penny in pitch black. :D Happy hunting. I have several 7000bc flints with the eyes, they look abit like glass in a muddy field.

Re: Old Colonial Road Hacks Up Thousand Year Old Artifact

Kirk, you and the 'bro are truly the consummate hunters. . .
(detectors? we don't need no stinkin' detectors!) able to pick up
the really cool stuff with just a peripheral glance

I'll bet the warrior that lost that would have probably traded you
a dozen coppa's (in pristine condition) to get that point back :D)

May the passion guide you along those Colonial roads,

Kirk,

Nice arrowhead. I might need one more angle on the piece, but it looks to be a Fort Ancient triangle. They date to about 500 years ago, and are the last prehistoric arrowhead form.

Glad to see you're out there swinging bro. Thats a nice looking point you got there. Good eye. The ancient sites, especially near the creek beds, can turn up alot of old art-ee-facts. May the coppa be with you young skywalker. :tongue3:

Re: Old Colonial Road Hacks Up Thousand Year Old Artifact

Kirk, I see several in my book it is very similar to, but it is a Late Woodland point for sure, 500-1500 A.D. Closest two I see are a "Levanna" or a "Madison" point. Levanna c. A.D. 700-1350 Madison c. A.D. 500-1500

A great book on Projective Points in the Northeast is "Projectile Point Typology For Pennsylvania And The Northeast" by Gary L. Fogelman.

Awesome, thanks, Don, for the help! I was joking about the 5,000 years. Heck, just knowing it is at least 500 years old is COOL and it possibly being 1500 is GREAT! I will take it!
