PICS INCLUDED BELOW!!

old foundation we came across in the woods. As you know my dad works for the railroad and sees this kind of stuff all the time, but neither of us have any idea what these structures are. Do You?!?! It's in the woods and obviously looks VERY old... Any advice on what to do with a site like this besides hunt every square inch of it?!

Re: old foundation...looks promising

There is a very old house, and part of a farm nearby. There are several of this small concrete? structures a few feet apart...trying to figure out what this place used to be and where I should start hunting?!

I would start hunting immediately.

Have any idea to what it might have been? A huge building, a blacksmith shop, is that big structure part of where a well used to be? Could there be treasure inside or lurking somewhere around this place, lol? I have so many questions. This place is about 45 mins away from where I live, but I'm willing to drive back there and FULLY check it out this time.

Looks like a old fort to me. Settlers in the area would put them up themselves to protect them from the indians that would raid the lands.

Just a guess. I'd have to see how old the structure really is. Is the base rock and mortar mixed. I'd get out some old maps and see if it shows up.

You think the middle concrete? part is the main part of the fort? You think I should try getting inside of it or breaking some of the bricks apart? Maybe I need some help on my next venture...I live in Kentucky.

checking around posts? I'm going back there this week and want to try and figure out what it is.....hopefully its full of coins and maybe theres a few secret spots with extra stuff buried?

All I can tell you is that the understory of stone is 1800s and the concrete is of course a lot later. I would think that the original stome foundation was reused for another purpose much later.

The buttress on the main pic is quite intersting, Its on the tip of my tongue but not quite there. I would think these are supports of some kind. I dont think they would be hollow.

Was that land ever swampy?

Methinks they were reinforced to carry heavier traffic at some stage.

Perhaps an old railroad?

How far off of the tracks is it?

The reason I ask is that it obviously looks like a very strong platform of some type. If it is solid all the way through, then maybe they had a crane-type thing attached to top to offload really heavy cargo from the railcars???? Just a thought.

what happened in court?

There is one kinda like that at my brother in laws house in Georgetown.
They said it was a old sistern to catch rain water and store it.
It almost looks just like it.
