I stopped by the old farmhouse after work where I dug the Walker half in the soybean field weeks ago. I had about an hour before it got dark so I worked an area behind the house where a barn used to be. One of my first signals was a Rosie dime. I then dug a thin old square piece of copper which I thought was just a piece of a shingle, but I could faintly see some design on it. When I got it home under the light I could see there was a photo on it! :o I was hoping it would be late 1800's or early 1900's, but the photo looks to be of a 1950's kitchen. :dontknow: The stove & kitchen table are definitely 1950's. I know there was film in the 1950's, so why is this photo on a piece of copper? What is it???

My other finds were:
*1963 Rosie dime & 1946 wheat
*Colonial crack pipe ;D (or part of an old gas lamp) :icon_scratch:
*Cuff button
*A few whats-its :dontknow:

That's all folks. Thanks for looking.

Once again, great finds MM :icon_thumright: Always enjoy your posts, thanks for sharing!!!

Great Post!
Love the photo!
Stove looks just like the one in a 1951 guest house I'm familiar with.
Looks like advertising, maybe some kind of printing plate.
Congrats on your silver!

that crack piep thingy is a gas valve for interior gas lights...that thumbscrew thing is might be part of the valve

I think your CW Crack Pipe is some sort of "tap/faucet".The piece with the arrow pointing to it, would most likely be the valve..
See if the valve part fits in the tap.
The ring shaped piece looks to be some sort of clutch disk,to me.

Nice bunch of finds. That definitely looks like 1950's on that old tin plate

Colonial Crack Pipe :tongue3: Alway's look forward to your post Doug......It wouldn't be the same without you on here Doug!!!

Mike,
Let's plan a Feb. detecting date either mid way, or if you are coming this way for biz during the week let me know & I'll take off work. :icon_thumleft: You would enjoy the 1820's place I just started.

Sorry CMD, I'll do better next time. LOL. Actually I was waiting for deer season to end so I could get back out in the woods to find more CW relics. I think it's safe now unless they mistake me for a rabbit. Squirrel or turkey I could see :tongue3: but not a rabbit.

Thanks Big Guy.
I tried to find an ad that matched by Googling "1950's kitchen", "1950's dishes", "1950's cabinets", but this was the best I could do. :-\

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure it's a gas valve as Duffy mentioned. I've seen other posted here on Tnet before. I tried the key, but it doesn't fit this valve. :( Oh well, I'll keep digging.

I agree 1950's. I've always liked those 50's retro kitchen tables.

The copper plate is definitely a printing plate. If I'm not mistaken, this originally had a wood backer plate. When the plate was attached to the wood, it could be mounted along side movable type.

If it were used on an 8 1/2x11 sheet of paper, the typesetter could add in any words they wanted. It probably said something like "The modern home features space saving steel cabinets" and "See the new steel cabinet line at Smith's Lumber and Material, Your hometown lumber company. Dial 5-Lincoln."

FWIW, I believe the plate is a reverse image. If you look at it with a magnifying glass, are any of the words backwards in the image on the plate?

Even though those plates and printing methods pre-date me by a long shot, I've been in the printing business all of my life.

Thanks for that info Clovis.
I looked but couldn't see any words at all on this one.
