✅ SOLVED Old Santa Fe trail finds

[Lamy Lineman]

Can anyone give me info. on these finds? They were found on the Old Santa Fe trail near Glorieta NM. There was a Civil War near this area. The bullet is really large. The eagle, just guessing, looks like a button cover?

I am just not sure about your bullet. It does look like a .58 civil war type bullet. Your "button cover" is actually a button face that was made after the civil war. If my memory is correct, the button was made between 1876 and about 1901.

I think your bullet is a modern shotgun rifled slug, and from your rather crude measurement my guess is 16 gage.

Thanks for the information. I need to get back there and keep swinging. Lots of junk and metal everywhere...
