Found a 925 ear ring and sterling ring yesterday in the wood chips. This morning found a mans ring that reads gold on MDer and is not magnetic. This ring has no markings and the center spins. I worked the front of the old high school (now a middle school) for about 4 1/2 hours also and found a 1917 merc at about 11" or 12", also three old deep wheats, 1911,1919 and 1937S.It turned out to be a fun day. Thanks for looking!!

Way to go! Keep looking and gold luck to you!

Very good finds! That old Merc has seen a lot of use but it is still a silver dime!! The ring looks a bit off color for gold, maybe have it tested by a jeweler?. Cute looking ring and nice paperclip................63bkpkr

That is great digging finds.

I'd say that's a pretty nice day!

Fantastic day indeed, congrats!!!

Nice old Merc!

How do you dig a 12" hole in front of a school without some "official" complaining?

Great merc, even if it is worn, it's pretty cool

Wow, I don't think my BH will go 11 inches down. I found a 1964 dime in front of an old HS last weekend. I take care putting back the plugs I dig, so as not to piss anyone off. Nice job, I love hunting schools, those kids are loseing stuff all the time.
HH

That's a good hunt there.

the school is not in use and might be sold in the future. it was 12" deep, not diameter. I always leave my holes so that I can hardly find them again. (usually). It is easier to hide holes in some areas of the country than others, for example: in Wisconsin I had an easier time hiding holes than in the more desert type climate I'm in for the time being. Thanks for looking.

I found this early 1900's city park in my town. It's in this declining neighborhood with the big victorian type homes. The current park is now just a large triangular stretch of mowed lawn with some playground equipment. I have metal detected near the tree line with no "historic" (just clad coins) finds, but I have been a little nervous to venture out into the open area. There are no full-time grounds keepers. So, if I had trouble it would probably be a cop passing by. Do you ever detect in highly visible public areas?

Yes, the cops usually will not bother you if you cover up your holes. You should be ok, I've never really had any issues.

Thanks for the encouragement to risk a more public detect. Great finds!

sweet finds. the ring looks gold to me. congrats!
