Well, only had 1 hour to hunt last night before taking the girls to see "Hairspray", so I met Oddcoins-Neil at a spot, and I found only 3 coins. Two pennies, and this silver coin. Pretty obviously a foreign coin, but what is it? Date reads something 08'. Any Ideas out there? If it is 1808, this will be one of my earliest dug coins.

I can see 1808 on the 3rd picture. Congrats on this find in Oregon....Very old coin for this area!

wow, nice find, makes you wonder how it ended up where you found it , being from another country . congrats

This was found in the same field that I found a 1868 Seated Liberty Half dime earlier this year, and a 1887 Indian head cent last July.

I'm pretty sure that it's a 1808 One Franc from France, but I'm not 100% sure.

Beat up, scratched, & dented, still a great find, WTG!!!
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Very nice! Love those old foreign silvers.

Looks like a Mixican 8 reales to me! Nice find!

The only problem is that the Mexican 8 Reales has the date on the obverse. It appears the mystery coin has the date on the reverse. Though I could be seeing things.

As the dude from France said, "It is a French 2 Francs." It is no longer a mystery coin! ;)

Nice. Silver is great on any day, regardless of condition. Congrats on the age, too. GL
