old thing??????

[Ralphw]

I found this at a place where I have found very old coins....early 1800s

looks like it was sharp at the one edge
about 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" x 1/2"

some kind of scraper or plane blade? no idea.

other side

I could be wrong but it looks like an old trailer rim clamp used on old mobile home rims.. http://www.centrevilletrailer.com/parts/part_detail.cfm?productid=580

[Ralphw]

very well could be ...... just the angle of the hole is sloped towards the back. maybe to give it some play

Its only about an inch and a quarter square. Hard to tell without a coin in the picture.

Ooops, guess not, then.

Was there a dismantled railroad or bridge nearby? Looks like a spacer/washer for large tie bolts. Just a thought.....

Its an old military airfield so maybe

[bradyboy]

could be a ductile iron bolt washer used to clamp iron water pipes together
