Hit a few spots today, got my oldest coin to date although I can't read the exact date it is pre 1760, George II, 2 other english coppers, buckle, crotal bell, good day for me, no question. (I have the video of a couple of these coming out of the ground, if I get an extra minute, will add later)

Just in case, what kind of buckle is this. It was a good day.

Re: Oldest yet and other goodies

Rick, can I ask you what town your in?
My family comes from Brule on the north shore 3 generations back. The next trip (who knows when) up I'm hoping to get permission to hunt the property (150 acres fields and woods).

Re: Oldest yet and other goodies

Now you're into the old stuff! That buckle is at least as old as the coin...and a much better find in my opinion. If I found it I would be calling it a small breech buckle.

Re: Oldest yet and other goodies

Well the date of the buckle is 1720-1790 - that's a given.

Because of its size the function is debatable, mostly likely a large Knee Buckle (some call it a Breech Buckle), could be a small shoe buckle. The last option is a Hat Buckle which narrows the date to 1770-90.

Re: Oldest yet and other goodies

Yep, you got it going on now, so keep hunting that spot!

Halfpenny dates 1729-1739.

I think I agree, certainly better looking than the coins.

Thanks, I think I can make it out good enough now to safely call it 1730 with the "V" spelling.
I think I will go back, I'm still wanting a silver.

Most likely but there is nothing small about it, for a breech buckle it about as big as you get

And make sure you dig all the low signals. George II coppers is Rev War button territory.

Re: Oldest yet and other goodies. CLEANED PICS ADDED

You have a great old site going there, their is no telling what you'll pull up next. I'd be digging everything, maybe a nice rev. war button will show up! Your buckle is awesome, i'd love to find one someday. And the GEOII copper is in decent shape, the ones i've found are always worn smooth, great job on the cleaning.
