Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I have never found any coins more than 7" deep. The signal was loud and clear at 7" with the stock coil.

I guess it's not just mine then. I picked up a half dollar at the same depth very clearly with a loud, solid tone, so I guess if I'm after halves I'm in good shape!!

Every deep coin I found with it I would have never dug on sound alone cause the signals were horrible I just dug out of curiosity

I basically ran in all metal with the sensitivity almost max

I find the Omega a very deep detector,i have found clad quarters at 9" in the park.I have a coin garden in my yard for 22 years and the Omega hit my 10" dime and quarter just fine.
In the fields i found a large cent at 11"
I think if there are deeper coin where you hunt ,you will find them.
Watch the Omega video`s on U-tube they hit coins at 9-10" on there.
I hunt in all metal to hit the target, then flip over to disc.3 tones 99 sen.and listen for the high tone.

I think that depends on location and soil type cause I never got that depth take for example I hunted a tiny park that I gridded the whole thing with the omega and only found clad and a couple wheats that were only 4-5 inches down I returned to the same park and gridded the same spots with the Safari and found over 20 Indian head pennies 8 silver's jewelry and more but they were all in the 8 inch range and my omega never picked up on them that happened at two spots with the omega so it leads me to believe different soil and conditions has a pretty drastic effect on it

I have 3 coils 11"DD,10" con.,5"DD...i use the 11' and 10" in the woods and fields and the 5"DD in the parks they all hit deep here, but our soil is great .

@sonofadigger

it is impossible for me to set the maximum sens, in best cases can to set it to 85. i never worked with the safari it must be a very good device in compare to the omega.

The omega was a good machine just in my case not that deep where the safari was very deep and as far as the sensitivity it was all about location I could run it at 99 most places but some I had to turn it down to 90 or so just right on the edge of being out of control

But take in mind guys mine is just one example of it.. It wasn't very deep for me but Gary is getting great depth with it I'm in no way saying it wasn't a good machine cause it is I found a lot of good stuff with it just not the depth I was looking for

BTW, the methode of Gary sounds very good, he use max power to find the object and before he will dig, increment the disc to find out what is really in the ground. My favorite settings are disc 1, sens max as possible (70-85), notch foils and zinc out, the rest stays in.

Gary What coil are you using and when you are hunting in all metal mode and find a good signal if you go to disc mode can you still hear your signal.

Red
I use all my coils in all metal and when i switch to disc. i can hear the target...i can not run it sen. all the way up in the city parks more like 50-70%...in the city the 10" concentric coil picks up less EMI.
The Omega is as deep as my Fisher CZ5 and it doesen`t have a love affair with iron....and better disc.way liter too.
Gary

Do you never use notching, Gary? And how often you use gb?

You should ground balance often everytime the soil conditions change its a good idea to do it and I would only notch out the iron a little bit and leave the rest

I have always turned sensitivity as high as I could before the chatter completely took over, and then turned te disc. up to 20. Maybe I'll try running it with the disc off completely.

When I can afford it, I plan on owning a Safari or a SE, but I'll just have to use the Omega for now. Maybe I'll be able to find a gold coin and can buy an E-Trac :)
