Alaska to resume bear-killing program, despite court order finding it to be void

By:

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game said Friday it will resume its predator control this weekend in Western Alaska, despite a court ruling two days earlier that determined the program remains in violation of the state constitution.

The program, which is using aircraft to kill bears in the area used by the ailing Mulchatna Caribou Herd, will resume on Saturday, the department said in a statement.

In its statement, the Department of Fish and Game said Superior Court Judge Christina Rankin’s decision against issuing a restraining order that was sought by an environmental organization, the Alaska Wildlife Alliance, allows predator control to be carried out, as authorized by the Board of Game in March.

I didn’t say anything about problems with keeping them in check.
Yes I pointed out keeping the bears in check like before around the1990's when there was more the one tool to use for this purpose.

Why do a few (that don’t even live there) get to make decisions for the whole (with the backing of the Gov.)?
The less registration / constituents there is in a given district the less power and money is made available to that district for the few to make the decisions.

Some will question if all of the offices are filled with properly seated officers?

Growing up I used to remember seeing 200-300+ herd of elk all the time in the lowlands in Idaho. Then they introduced wolves. Now I never see elk around.
I get the noble idea of trying to introduce these bears back to where they used to roam. But these things are vicious! That the last animal I would want to encounter when out by the river. I recall reading about Lewis and Clark, and almost every time they encountered a grizzly, it was charging at them. No thanks. I hope the delay the plan to release them in Washington.

People in California, and Oregon should join together and fight to stop the reintroduction of the grizzly into Washington. It’s in all of our interests.

Problem is getting working folks organized.

Not many people in Eastern Oregon want anything to do with California.

Yep the State of Washington is re - introducing grizzly bears in the forests not far from people so what could go wrong????????
The State of Oregon does not have grizzly bears and the black bears generally have a good temperament and don't like people in general unless a given bear tastes blood of farm animals / pets. Then that bear is a problem that does not go away.
Hell latest word from Ca Fish and wildlife they want to bring back the Grizzly :violent1:

Oregon has been that way for the last 30 years, at least. 3 counties control the state and a huge amount of the are refugees from California that have been turning Oregon into California! (Hope this isn't too political!)

Well Hank even knows the folks from Northern California are a different breed from the folks you are referring to. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Eastern Oregon and never had a problem getting along with people I’ve met along the way. I have lots of family in Eastern Oregon and Southern Washington.

We are in the same boat in Northern California only MUCH worse. We have people 580 (edit 700) miles! away voting on how we should live our lives. How crazy does that sound?

South. You’re safe regardless where you live. Believe me, there are many good people living in Southern California. As with everything, blanket statements or assumptions about a large group of people will not likely fit reality entirely. With that said, I don’t venture south very often.

Well in Oregon it is both South and mostly North as in the largest Cities.
The history shows very good people in the founding of both California and other West States so the roots are still there.

Ya, but you eastern Oregon folks think a town consists of 1 hardware store, 1 cafe, 2 card lock gas pumps, and a post office. Cemetery on the hill is optional.

Anything more than that and you’re getting lost.

Just like you have pointed out that the voters in the large counties / cities control what is happening at the 1 hardware store, 1 cafe, 2 card lock gas pumps, and a post office...........:laughing7: :hello: :dontknow:

The City of Portland for example is all over the news nation wide and has a slogan of "Keep Portland Weird"

PS: I forgot to mention about the two outhouses, one on the hillside next to the optional cemetery, and the other just outside of the café.............. :hello: :coffee2::icon_thumright::cat::icon_scratch:.

No way are any bears allowed to poop in either of the two outhouses however stand guard outside 24/7........ :laughing7: :cat:
