"ONE CENT' ....no wheatie!

Out to a few locations today....pulled a wheatie[1952].Later,I dug another or at least I thought it was....was pretty encrusted but I could barely make out "one cent" on the tail side.Turned out to be a IH......soaking in olive oil now...hopefully I'll be able to get a year after soaking.....will post a picture down the road if the olive oil does its job

Forget the olive oil--its a waste of time....try dropping it in some boiling hydrogen peroxide a few times and it will clean up well. Congrats on the IH.

Olive oil does wonders. On copper coins that aren't rare and I don't plan on grading I use a green plastic scouring pad. You don't need to scrub down to the metal with it but just enough to get the stubborn dirt/encrustation off. It's softer than the metal so it's easier on the coin.

I agree, I tried olive oil for a week and it did nothing. I was able to see the detail slightly better but that was just dipping it and patting it dry.
