Dear admin: I wonder, with items that might take time to properly restore and/or classify, if the banner rule of "finds/posts must be RECENT" is flexible at all?

Thanks, I can't take all credit for cleaning I removed a lot of the crud but when I got to the engraving at the top I felt a professional should remove so I sent it to Leonard short

This is an excellent point. It took time for restoration and identification but it was posted within days of finding it originally. Finds like this deserve to be on the banner.

So I think from now on I'm going to just post what I write in my banner submissions. Here goes:

"Utter rarity and eye appeal. Looking back through the banners in the last couple of years I couldn't spot anything like it. I do think it's true potential took time and professional cleaning to reveal, so would hope that this would be considered even though it is not technically a recent find."

WOW! Beautiful find! Definitely deserving of the banner! I'd try to find the other half as well...you just never know! As mentioned by another poster I found an 8th regiment example....both halves. Glad I went back and found the other half. I believe you should be able to find a pic of mine in that book...but just in case here it is.
