Gypsy,
If you are out walking through the cemetary and stumble across my headstone, just know...I ain't dead....yet....LOL

I had my headstone erected on my plot about 10 years ago...that way I got to choose what I wanted it to say and for what things I wanted to be remembered for. And, no, it doesn't say "Kiss my a$$"....ha/ha

One of the most beautiful cemetaries that I love to walk through is the Arlington National Cemetary. I love just staring at the Eternal Flame on JFK's grave...so peaceful.

"Geeze...do you plan on digging the hole yourself too?"

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I hope not...but then again, if nobody comes to my funeral, then I might have to... ;D

My parents did the same thing....put up their own headstones.....it was so much easier on us three boys, not having to deal with "decisions" in a time of grief. Besides, I always believed in getting the last word in.....and I will...on my headstone...LOL

Loved the pictures Gypsy !! I played in our Historical cemetery as a child. My cousins lived 4 houses down the street from it. Great hide and seek games ! and of course sitting and waiting to see ghost. ::)

Very nice, Gypsy. Pay me a visit down here & I can take you to 2 Hungarian cemeteries...all the headstones are etched in the language. I did a update to the records for a new book & after all the transcribing from Hungarian to English, they told me it was too much for the book. All they wanted was the name, birth date & death date. Needless to say, it was the last time I did it.

There is just something about an old cemetery that deeply moves me. I can spend hours reading headstones. And going back to that time that they lived. When hardship was a way of life. Simpler, but I believe much happier times. Where faith, family, and friends were what got you through until you reached the other side.

There's a lot of history in those cemeterys...especially the older ones. I think it is very interesting what types of headstones can be found. There is one in Nashville that is actually a large pyramid with the casket inside.
I had some rubbings from some in the Boston area until I realized that activity was prohibited :o..and now one of my ex wives has them >:(.
Interesting hobby Gypsy ;)

Remember the Christmas Vacation movie where Chevy Chase gets on the saucer sled and, just before going down the hill will sparks trailing he says, "Later dudes"? I told the family then that that's what I want on my tombstone.........Later Dudes

Here are some inscriptions that are too funny .

The children of Israel wanted bread
And the Lord sent them manna,
Old clerk Wallace wanted a wife,
And the Devil sent him Anna.

And that is Strange.

His comely young widow, aged 23, has

Russell J. Larsen buried in Logan, Ut.

Two things I love most,
good horses and beautiful women,
And when I die I hope they tan this old hide of mine
and make it into a ladies riding saddle,
So I can rest in peace
between the two things I love

One Wood

The outer wood
Is very good:
We cannot praise
The other.

When the great judgement day arrives
and Joshua Fenton Newton does not emerge from this hole,
you will know that someone made a mistake
and buried me in the wrong hole.

My epitaph will read, (and meant to be funny not vain) "He was a credit to his gender"
