Only the second hunt in my life and this is what I found

So I went back out after work with my wife and spent another 2 1/2 hours on the front lawn. Amongst other things as you'll see in the photo we found two colonial buttons, the large one still has the ring on the back. Also what appears To be some kind of tag whether it was for a PO Box ID or a dog tag from the town we live in, we're not sure.IMG_2748.webpIMG_2748.webpTo be some kind of tag whether it was for a PO Box or a dog tag from the town we live in, we're not sure. After approximately six hours into our new hobby it sure has been fun. You can see the dog was on the tended to and found a mud puddle to playing. I fear the dog will be neglected until we dig our entire property. Thanks to everyone who posted such thoughtful comments. Cheers

Wow!! Just incredible! You are either the luckiest person on earth, or a gifted with very good metal detecting skills and have a yard filled with awesome artifacts waiting to be found! It took me a year to find anything colonial. I recommend that you go to the Library of Congress website or Historic Mapworks and find an old map of your town or county which labels old homesteads. Overlay the map to Google Earth and see if you can find any potential cellar hole sites. Good luck!

Wow! I just saw the colonial buttons you found! You are doing very good! I am happy to find just one colonial button in a hunt, and still haven't found a Fugio Cent!!! I think I found a toy car on my third hunt lol. And a chunk of iron on my second one.

I can't say I'm very good because I don't know what I'm doing. Yet.
I've heard that it takes 100 hours on any machine to understand it and I believe that.
We bought this house almost 3 years ago so I guess we are lucky that we live in a historic town. The real proof will be when I have to understand and learn how to research potential detecting sites. With that said, I could be a good luck charm for someone who is experienced and they want to show me the ropes. Ha ha

Hammer287... what a way to start out.

Super killer find.

Take the advice and do some research on the location... but most of all... GO BACK ! ! ! ASAP !

Well thankfully it's easy to go back because it's my front yard. Thanks for the nice comment
