While in my backyard with my father metal detecting, my father came across this token that at first we thought was a large cent. After cleaning it with electrolysis, it turns out to be some kind of 1789, George Washington inauguration token. Can anyone please help me further identify this token? Thanks pic are coming

Sorry, not really any help, but I thought you might like to see this one I found back in march.

It reads, "1789 1st President of the U.S.A. 1797 George Washington" and both sides are the same. Never really got a positive ID on it. Turns out there were many different Washington tokens/medallions, etc...

Good luck on the ID, I'll be watching the thread to see how it all comes out...

This is the medallion from a participation badge issued in New York in 1889 for the centennial of Washington's inauguration. Some were struck in white metal, and others in bronze.

It is listed and illustrated on p. 213 of Rulau & Fuld's book, Medallic Portraits of Washington, 2nd Ed.
