Zoom in on that bench below on the other side of the river. You'll see someone has been working that alluvial deposit by the river at the end of that road and a spiral wheel just to the right of those workings.I use to pan gold in you middle photo off that far right point by the end of the hwy there. It was the tailrace area for the end of the hanging flume.
Indeed a lot of Colorado has been claimed and over run. We have a warehouse in Nucla Colorado and the fastest way there is I70 to GJ and 50 to 141, so I'll be going through Gateway from time to time I'm sure. The road was a bit slick from Whitewater to Gateway.
Thats the reflection of a strap on a mask I have up on the dash. You know mask orders are everywhere I go, except for those who aren't in the know.Pulled a few flatbed loads out of that area back in the mid-90's.
