OK, I USE THE MXT BY WHITES. I AM PRESENTLY USING THE 6 X 10 DD ECLIPSE LOOP. I HAVE NEVER USED MY STOCK 9.5 LOOP THAT COMES STANDARD WITH MY MXT.
THE REASON I USE THE DD LOOP IS BECAUSE I WAS TOLD IT WOULD GIVE ME MORE STABILITY, MORE DEPTH IN AREAS WITH IRON PRESENT, AND THE SIGNAL GOES STRAIGHT DOWN FROM TIP TO TIP.
I WAS DOING SOME AIR TYPE BENCH TESTS KEEPING MY GROUND TOGGLE IN THE LOCK POSITION. USING A QUARTER AS MY TARGET AND MY 6 X 10 DD LOOP ON BOARD AND LEAVING ALL MY CONTROLS AT THE PRESETS, I COULD ONLY GET A READABLE SIGNAL ADUIO AND VISUAL AT AN 8IN. DEPTH.
NOW I STRAPPED ON THE 9.5 LOOP AND PERFORMED THE SAME TEST. I WAS ABLE TO GET AN EXTRA 1.5 IN. DEPTH ... NEEDLESS TO SAY , I AM CONFUSED NOW.....ANY OPINIONS OR EXPLAINATIONS WOULD BE GREATLY ACCEPTED..........PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS.................PACO

Yo, PACO, air tests are not 100% accurate, dude. Remember, my Ace 250 air tested deeper than the Minelab. Dude, don't second guess that coil, considering that it found you some great coppas and wilver. Dude, keep the faith and that DD will get you those deep coins. ;)

THANKS ZOY FOR THE COMEBACK....... YOUR RIGHT, I DID GET ALL MY COPPERS WITH IT AND THE OLD WILVERS. BUT WOULD THE 9.5 GO DEEPER IN THE FARM FIELDS........I`M NOT SURE WHAT I SHOULD BE USING. MY M-6 SEEMED TO OPERATE MORE STABLE WITH THE 6 X 10 THOUGH.............

PACO, you know that your DD punches deep, but maybe you aren't 100% confident with the Mixed Mode audio. I believe that you should stick with it and become a master of it; once you fully and I mean fully understand what signals are being emitted, then make some more conclusions.

ITS NOT THE MIXEDMODE AUDIO. THAT FUNCTION IS EASY.........I`M JUST WONDERING WHICH LOOP WILL GIVE ME THE DEEPEST PUNCH.....PACO ( BDD )

KirkPA and I were just talking and we believe that you should give the 9.5 a try this weekend. If it seems to be going deeper, then if you wouldn't mind, I could throw your DD into the Susquehanna. :D In other words, put your 9.5 on the first string and let's see what happens.

Paco, I don't know why you are second guessing that 6 X 10. That coil has been super lethal this past month. I have noticed that you kick some major butt with that coil while in the iron patches. You actually have more of an advantage than zoy and I while you use that coil.

Like zoy stated, I would give your 9.5" coil a shot this Sunday and see what it can do. I have faith in your detecting abilities, dude.

Keep the White's passion high!

Paco,
Take a coppa, and a wilver and bury them about 10" down in seperate holes and cover em(don't forget to mark the spots). Then try both coils out and see what kinda signals you get from both coils. Try em at deeper depths until only one coil gets a hit.

It seems like you guys could have taken care of this matter with a conference call back in South Williamsport ;D ;D but I'm going to weigh in anyway if you don't mind. I have three coils for the DFX. I have the stock 9.5, the 4x6 shooter DD which I love for tight spots and target separation and it doesn't seem to lose much depth, and I have the 12" spider coil which i love for its ability to cover more ground. It hasn't really been tested in the field though because most of the signals I get are between 4 and 6.5 inches. I have a feeling it will go much deeper especially with the gain and sensitivity cranked up. Pinpointing is about the same as with the stock 9.5 I believe the MXT is compatible with the spider coil?? Am I right. I haven't actually tested it by burying targets yet but if you're concerned with extra depth you can always get a couple more inches by "reverse hunting". Where you hunt in DC mode (all metal)(by squeezing the trigger) and when you sweep across a target, you then double check the signal by releasing the trigger and sweeping over the target in AC mode. I don't use the 9.5 much any more. I use the 12" for open areas and the 4x6 shooter for tight areas. Good luck with your decision and feel free to IM me if you have any other questions.

You could also consider not limiting yourself to just one coil per location. Utilize the tools available.

PACO does utilize his tools. :D ;D

Conference calls are always happening. :D PACO will appreciate your information, bud. Thanks for the help.

Good idea but you also have to remember that coins that are not buried for testing can be detected deeper because of the "halo" effect. You may not get the same reading from burying a coin at 10" as you would from a coin that is at 10" and has been in the ground for 150 years.

I have talked to PACO about certain air test conditions. They are never truly accurate when you are detecting in the metal detecting fields.

We have seen an Ace 250 do a better air test than a Minelab. That is kind of funny. It just ain't accurate.

P.S. PACO, we must pull a John Walter on Sunday. "Alllll year." :D

I have been using my MXT for 5 years. If all things were equal I would never take the 9.5 off my MXT as I have found my deepest finds with it. However when you run into heavy mineralization or heavy iron the 9.5 can become erratic and make hunting tough. If you back off the gain to calm it down then you lose signal strength, hence depth and throw in some iron and your done for. This is when I throw on the 6X10DD to smooth it out and to gain some of the depth I was losing with the erratic 9.5. With all that being said, when I got the 6X10 I used it exclusively for quite awhile so I could learn to pinpoint with it and see how it reacted and what kind of depth I was getting. Side by side in what I call clean ground the 6X10DD is not as deep as the 9.5. I now have the Super 12 on and have only had it out a few times. So far the verdict is still out for me as I have not hit anything deeper than the 9.5 would get me but it sure covers some ground. Oh almost forgot, I love the target separation the 6X10 gives you in moderatly trashy sites.

Try that stock coil, it's killer if the ground is right!

Paco take some advice from me, order you and Excelerator coil. You and Kirk and Zoy hunt big open fields mostly and for that type of hunting you CANT go wrong with the 10x14 DD Excelerator coil. It is super senitive and goes very DEEP and scans ALOT of area in each sweep. I would recommend this bigger size for exactly that reason. Fields are NO place for a small coil. But you can use it in the woods and in small places to. In fact, I hardly ever take mine off as it is so accurate and sensitive. I use the MXT as well and dont think there is a better relic machine out there....and with this coil you will be lethal!!!! ;) ;)

The stock coil is the best coil overall for the unit.

I have a 14X8DD on the Dfx. I prefer it over the stock coil. More coverage and stability in bad soils. I've gotten great depth also with it. It has no problem hitting those larges at 10 inches. Even the most experienced users like Jeff foster all state the stock coil gives you the greatest depth.

I disagree in some ways. I think the 1400 has a slight edge in depth over the stock coil. Maybe 20%. I've read though that the stock is a deeper coil than the DD. My brother had a Mxt. I would walk right through bad soils and pluck 0old coin after old coin out. While his Mxt would not run stable.

Hope this helps some. The 1400 is worth every cent of the 200.00 they cost. Big farm fields and woods are ideal locations for this coil. Get one in the future. It will pay for itself.

Resent field testing using the Excellerator coil range, which includes 12.5,14 and 18 inch produces results.12.5 and 14 clear can reach to 15-20 inchs and the 18 inch 20-26 inches [thats a single coin] deeper for cashe and larger items.

Excellerator coils can be used with a whites or minelab,so air testing detectors proves what. ??? ??? ???

There is your answer, PACO.

if i can add to this thread a bit ...

i think we ALL have to agree the coins you guys have found over the last 4-5 months are very IMPRESSIVE - and after talking with each of you about them, most were found between 1-8 inches ...
i really think trying to get better depth is a mute point when you are already finding these types of coins in these types of quantities

the only reason i took my 16" excellerator coil to the Coronet field the other day was because it was a perfect scenario for a deeper coil

1) already pounded hard & no junk or iron ANYWHERE
2) 14 very old coins were found there in a concentrated area
3) no dead corn stalks to get tangled in (a big problem with an open air coil)
4) next to the river so flooding has probably piled extra soil on desirable targets

and it did pay off, there was a colonial coin as well as 2 buttons and a musketball on the ridge

this weekend in our hunt though i will change back to my stock coil on the SE
there are coins there to be had at 1-8 inches AND there is iron in the area which greatly diminishes the effectiveness of the larger coils (they are so big, anything under it's footprint will make it sound and then you have multiple signals to deal with right off the bat)

bottom line Paco, stick with what has been working for you and what you ALREADY know -
"don't change your batting stance now when you've already been hitting homeruns !!!!!"

just my 2 cents !
