Padlock

Hello Forum,

I found a vintage padlock. Can anyone help me identify the brand or age? There is a diamond shaped mark at the top of the arched locking mechanism. Thanks for looking!

Did you buy that or dig it? If you dug that my hats of to you my friend. If you bought it great buy. I love old padlocks found my first one last month dated back to 1800-1804.

Yes I dug it. I lost some of the nice green patina while working on it, but yes it works again!!!
It was hard finding a blank to work with, but once I did it was fun. I solved it one piece at a time until it was fully impressioned. I hope I can find another one to work on soon.

I am 100% impressed!!!! You found the key with it csd? I just got my renaissance wax in and put the final touch on mine. Mine was a ball of rust, but I love it. I’m so hooked on old padlocks now. This hobby has so many thinks to get obsessed with. Any suggestions on get that brass key cover back shining?

No Truth. I searched every lock and safe company, antique shop etc. I didn't dig the key out of the ground. The key I finally settled with had to be drilled and filed to make it work. As for shining the cover on your lock, maybe you can use a dremmel tool with a buffing wheel and some buffing compound. That's a nice lock!

Ya'll be careful with those old lock finds. I found a lock similar on March 29th:



I was going to do electrolysis on it, but was too fascinated by it, picked at a little spot on it and the whole thing disintegrated.

I should have just left it alone.

I did notice some small holes developing, but overall I’m happy all that rust is off. I would just love that brass to pop. I’m gonna try buffing it like cantstopdigging suggested.
