I went panning and sluicing in sultan Washington. Didn't get anything. Saw some micro gold in my pan but nothing to keep. We went through about 10ish buckets of gravel and dirt. Anyone wanna give me some advice? Washington is known for very fine gold. What am I doing wrong? I made my sluice. Nice carpet and expanded metal in it. Its harder to find a good angle in a river for the sluice than I thought. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Not that I am killing it but one of the mistakes I made when first starting out was looking for a good spot to run a sluice and then trying to find gold around that area.I have since learned that is bass ackwards gotta find the gold first and that dictates where u work.

100% find the gold first sample sample sample it can be stressed enough!! Many times the only tools i can use are pans where the gold is.

Shimp,

Can you get up to Skagit county for a day, or even half a day?
It's just over an hours drive from Seattle up to Mt. Vernon.

If so we could hit a good spot on a local river that has consistently
produced gold for me. Easy access, and we can pan or sluice. It's
not big monstrous nuggets, but gold is gold!

In just a few short hours we can get you up to speed on panning
and sluicing, and then you'll be prepared to head out on your own
and know where to find good color and get it into your pan (providing
it's there to start with!). Be sure to bring your sluice along as well,
and we'll give it a try with some material that I know holds gold.

I would also very much enjoy the company, as 99% of the time
I'm out on my own, and the wife doesn't worry so much when
some one else is along.

Sent you a PM with my cell number. I'm planning on leaving for a trip
down to the So. Cal. desert on the 17th, but am free most any day
prior (I'm retired).
