At least, I would hope that nobody on T-Net would leave a mess like what I ran into today.
I tried a new park today. (new to me) It was a pretty obvious place to hunt so I figured I wasn't alone in seeing this one.

I was right. I'll get to that in a moment.

Ya know, they sure don't make bobby pins like they used to, as far as I can recall.
Poor Blingie! He's not talking to me right now. Keep finding these things for hair. LOL


Ok, now the rest of this post is directed at any newbies out there AND to the one who leaves messes like this!

I was happily exploring this "new" park, (again, to me), when I got into a section where someone had OBVIOUSLY dug before. Now,
that others have been digging here isn't a surprise nor a concern to me. As you can see, I ALWAYS find something, anyway!

But this inconsiderate boob, left their calling card so blatantly. It REALLY made me sad!

I know that some can't bend over past their own gut anymore and so they get these long handled, steam shovels so they can cut a plug while they stand up. (BUT! THEN!! They BEND OVER anyway!! To get the target!!! ) But that isn't the worst of it, they
cut a plug soooo friggin' HUGE you could drive a car thru! I swear! If I could get to any board who controls whether or not digging is allowed in their park, I would push as hard as I could to LIMIT the size of the digger! AND, no long handled shovels! (ok...that part of my rant over)

These holes were so huge that at first I didn't even recognize them as detecting plugs! I swear, I could look across the field and see where all of the holes were! Even though they did a half *ss job of putting the plugs back in their caverns!

I mean! COME ON!!! If this was my park "I" would have complained!!!

Even if you're coming thru on a last try at a place. Where you don't figure to ever come back again so you throw caution to the winds. If you're doing this to parks, STOP!! Get your lazy *ss down to some pin pointing and digging class somewhere! I fervently hope that whomever is doing something like this doesn't happen to be in a park where I am, I doubt I'd be able to control myself!

I also hope that it isn't anyone on T-Net!

Newbies? You do NOT have to dig a manhole sized plug on each possible target! LEARN how to pinpoint! THEN dig the smallest plug you can!

So, what brought all that on?

To prove another point to whomever, I re-hunted this person's path, (fixing what I could as I went along).

Now, I was trying to prove a point and to that end I was hunting as hard as I could! Meaning that I was bringing forth all my expertise and experience to prove that what they did was not only unnecessary but also not even good technique.

This is what I rest my case on.

That's correct! RIGHT NEXT TO THEIR PLUG!



So, folks, PLEASE do your digging as you would want someone to dig in your own front lawn.
These huge divots are not only ugly they are dangerous! Kids run and play in parks and the way this plug was up and not level with the rest of the field would easily trip up a fullback!

AT THE VERY LEAST! REPAIR YOUR DAMAGE!!!

I did try to clean up as I went but I couldn't get to all of them.

This one looks a "little" better now, but man!!



My hole is just to the left, I tried my best to repair their damage.

Let's keep the hobby's interest at heart out there folks!

We are doomed, enjoy it now, pretty soon there will be nowhere left to metal detect. I ran across this in my travels and found out recently that area is now closed to metal detecting! Its a shame the times that we live in nowadays. I too went around where this lazy good for nothing (I seen the guy, he was not in bad shape) and fixed all his mess. Weeks later I found more, but too late now. It's a shame, some of my best silver came from that spot.

I went out to fairgrounds after fair to do some detecting In late December and spent more time fixing others holes than I did detecting. There is always a few people out there the week after the fair so I waited a week and what a mess they left. My wife is the full time secretary for the fair and works there 3 to 4 days a week all year round and she said they were thinking about not letting people detect anymore and I talked her out of it and told her I would fix the plugs and if I catch anyone leaving holes I would talk to them so hope the board doesn't shut down the detecting out there.

i meant late September not December lol. Good thing I know all the board members and married to one or this could of shut down the fairgrounds for detecting. If ya don't know how to dig a plug just post on here and a lot of people will tell you how and I'm sure there is videos on it. Leave the shovel at home if on public property and use a small digging tool. Ok there is my public service announcement for the month. Lol

Thought I'd tell of one occasion where logic won out.

I was hunting a small park near an intersection one time and evidently someone complained of this idiot digging up the park.

Anyway, in order to make this as short as I can, a cop came up, watched me dig a couple holes and then motioned me over. I went over and talked to him. Sharing what I'd found. He was interested and kind but he said I'd have to move along because some people were not being as considerate in their digging.

I asked him for his indulgence for a moment. We turned our attention to the intersection. I said let's watch a few cars going through. After about 6 cars, one went straight through a stop sign and kept going. I said, I guess they'll be closing that road soon. He knew I was onto something and with a wink he said, why.

I said, well, obviously, we won't need roads to drive on anymore. If ONE idiot cannot follow the rules of the road then we simply CAN'T allow there to be any more driving!

He laughed. Then, told me to be sure to clean up as I go along and to keep the holes small.

We shook hands and went on our ways. Him, back on patrol for "real" problems and me? Why back to detecting of course.

It's not too late but we absolutely MUST keep the people realizing that it's not EVERY detectorist that is causing the problems. And, like law breakers, those are the ones to call down. Not just do a blanket solution. The world is not ready for us, as a whole, to get upset and start protesting! There are a LOT of voters who detect!

Blah, blah, blah AND "the pursuit of happiness"!!!! We need to not just roll over when told we can't detect in OUR park. We need to let them know that there are repercussions!

In one of the parks I detect a city worker was cutting the grass at the soccer field as I was detecting so I stopped until he passed the area I was detecting and he asked me why I stopped and I let him know that since the grass was still long his mower would probably pull my small plug out so until he finished I would wait because then it would have time to mend itself back together he was amazed that I cared enough to worry how the park looked as everyone else at this park just trash it and graffiti everything in sight. He also told me they came back when I left one day to see the damage I had done and he said they couldn't find anywhere I had dug.Made me feel good.

It is happening more then we think. Two months ago me and Sarge hit an old lake and park. Being it was my first time there I could see holes everywhere. Sarge had been fixing them over a period of time. He told me it was an elderly guy who had a kid digging for him. To make matters worse this kid dug up tons of beaver tails and trash and left it next to the poorly filled hole.
When Sarge shows me his hot spot we are there 10 minutes and an irate dog walker flipped on us because his dog had stepped in a hole on a previous day.
I am on the beach year round and it was a mess this summer with shoobies digging holes and not filling them.
