PAY UP, BUCKAROO

Found this at a Thursday afternoon pre-yard sale. Paid 50 cents. Measures 12 x 17 inch. Its been used and abused. The saying and the name have been glued on. It has been signed Jan Pearce. If you look closely under the signature, I think it reads Pearce "66. I can't tell if its a print or an original watercolor. Your thoughts? I like it a lot and its days of being abused are over. Thanks for looking! HH All!

Don't know but I like it. Here is a little on the subject of the piece- May Lillie (1869- 1936) was a side saddle rider. She was the “Champion Girl Horseback Shot of the West” in the Pawnee Bill Historic Wild West Show from 1888-1908. She was married to Gordan William Lillie, known as Pawnee Bill for fifty years. Maybe this marriage lasted so long because she was given a .22 rifle from her husband as a wedding gift. Who says side saddle riders aren’t tough?

Can't find anything about Jan Pearce, but it looks like an engraving with watercolor/ink wash accents added after the fact, along with the text. Possibly an intermediate phase of a vintage ad - artist made the May Lillie image (engraving)?, printed it, then added graphics and paint. This was likely copied and developed further. Would explain the condition.
