I found this pewter bowl (I'm guessing) today and it's a bit mangled but I think I can pound it back out. The bottom clearly reads PEWTER REG US PAT OFF 1794 (weak 9)

The problem is, I haven't been able to track down the hallmark or touchmark or what ever you wish to call it.

Along side it was this cool little snath wrench.

Easy enough to find other examples, but none of them know what company they're from. The listing below does have a good close-up of the mark, which includes the letters M C, which I would guess is Metal Company. But what the heck is the rest of it?

It is surely a pattern number, rather than a date though.

It is surely a pattern number, rather than a date though.

That's just down right evil of them to make a Pattern date that looks like a Patent date. Suddenly my $100 plate is a 1 cent chunk of scrap pewter.

We didn't ID the halmark but close enough for gov't work.
