That is not a pewter button. It is a tombac button. Excellent finds!

Nice old "Tombac" Coop.

So called Hessian Buttons (also Tomback, Tombac, or Tombak buttons) are usually found along with relics, circa mid-18th to early 19th centuries, in the North-East...
They have the familiar Cone Shape Shank. The shanks of these buttons soldered in place with a sort of cone-shape buildup of metal on the back. The color of these buttons ranges from almost aluminum to almost a brassy color. Brass is also an alloy of copper and zinc, but the copper content is much higher in brass, so it is never a "white" metal.

Buck Correct I thought tombac was a type of pewter but it is not. Its copper/zinc alloy, or thin brass. I thought they were Tin and Antimony or Tin Antimony and a little copper. Thanks for the heads up

Thanks Mike Im familiar with tombac buttons but I thought tombac was just a different mixture of pewter. like tin, and antimony. Thanks for the heads up
