Pipestone ??

I was just wondering why my Grandpa's catlinite pipe was "redder" then the pipestone that I have found ? The "red " appears to go through the stone . Now that I have thought about it , ..most [all?] finished pipe I have seen are red , and to boot I know of one unfinished pipe thats the colour of my pipestone ?? Is heat the answer ?

The answer is simply polish, the nice deep red color comes with high levels of polishing- beautiful material isn't it?
