PLEASE help ID this coin. It's killing me!

I dug this yesterday along with my first Indian penny :headbang: Happy day!

Unfortunately our NH soil kills coins so this is not only bent, but it's in rough shape.

I can't for the life of me find anything on line that it looks like.

I'm hoping that someone here can help me with figuring out what this coin is.

It is the same size as a quarter, but it is really thin.

Very thin could mean Spanish. Coin looks to have green patina, suggesting copper content.

In your case with this coin, I'd suggest gently flattening the coin. More details might be forthcoming. Also a week or two (at least) in olive oil might help with identifying characteristics.

i see that as well. I also think that I see a standing person on the reverse with a dagger orsword on the right side of the coin. With the number 16 below the sword.

I may be seeing thugs though. I'd love to know the date and origin though.

Looks British, with seated or standing Britannia, maybe late 1700's-early 1800's That sword might be her holding the Trident (three pronged stanchent)

This is what I think is the sword, but it also looks like a cross. Also the 16.

I would guess more a Jeton / token than a coin. The good news is there's enough detail to ID it. (leave it as is)

It amazes me when I look at a post that needs help with identifying something. You guys are pretty good at what you do and a lot of people would never know what they found if it wasnt for you guys. Thanks for all your knowledge on so many different things! When I first looked at this coin I didnt see any marks on it but when the you guys pointed things out I could see them. Thanks for all your help and HH!!!!

You are quite right! This is an excellent resource and could stand on it's own as a valuable research tool and website.

Sort of reminds me of an Italian Baiocco

The coin has been soaking in olive oil for awhile now. There is a lot more detail, but I still can't figure out what it is.

I'll post some more pictures later tonight and maybe someone will recoginze it.

Re: PLEASE help ID this coin. It's killing me!

Hahaha thanks for the kind words.

It took me a LOT of looking at that coin through a magnifying glass to figure it out. I spent hours on end trying to figure out the details.

It only took 2 months in olive oil to get enough details visible and 2 months of searching on the internet to make an ID.

I can't really mark it solved yet though.

I know what it is now, but I don't know WHAT it is.

I know Canadian token of esteem. That's IT though.

I need to know why it was issued in order for me to consider it solved, but I promise that I will mark it solved once I find out. :icon_thumright:

It's not uncommon for tokens to be unattributed and being no one seems to know that could be the case for this one.
